Google Fiber Phone to launch in US with unlimited calling

Google is planning to roll out the next evolution in landlines, the Fiber Phone, and a related subscription service at $10 per month (around Rs 660). The service will offer unlimited local and national calls as well as international rates at par with Google Voice, which works out to Rs 0.6 per minute to India for example.

In many ways, Fiber Phone brings mobile phone functionality to your landline. You get to keep your existing number, the service will provide you with spam filters, call-blocking, do-not-disturb and more. If that wasn’t enough, Google will apparently transcribe your voicemail for you and text or email the transcriptions to you directly.

Also included is the power of the cloud. Get a call on your landline? Answer it on your mobile, tablet or even laptop. The number stays with you wherever you go.

“Whether it’s calling mom or ordering take-out, we rely on our phones to help reach the people and things that matter. And while mobile phones have pushed us toward the future, home phone service is still important to many families,” Says Google.

Too bad the service isn’t coming to India anytime soon.

Lollipop is now most used Android Version

Google has released its latest update to the distribution numbers for each version of Android. In the latest round, Lollipop continues to gain ground, while the latest version, Marshmallow, jumped a little over one percentage point. Lollipop now sits at 36.1 percent, up from the to 34.1 percent in February, while Marshmallow has made the jump to 2.3 percent from 1.2 percent.

Snapdragon 820 Benchmarked, CPU & GPU Performance Shown Off

Qualcomm has already introduced their Snapdragon 820 SoC, and the company has also showcased its capabilities through benchmarks on reference devices. We’ve seen quite a Snapdragon 820-related leaks, and LeEco has introduced the first Snapdragon 820-powered handset during the Consumer Electronics Show last month. That being said, a new Snapdragon 820 benchmark surfaced, and it shared the SoC’s both CPU and GPU performance, read on.

Now, this test was performed on a device which sports a 6.2-inch 2560 x 1600 display, 4GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. That device was also equipped with a 12-megapixel snapper on the back though that’s not exactly relevant when these tests are concerned. Android 6.0 Marshmallow came pre-installed on this SoC. Now, as most of you know, the Snapdragon 820 is actually a 64-bit quad-core processor which ships with an Adreno 530 GPU for graphics rendering. This SoC sports two 2.1GHz Kryo and two 1.6GHz Kryo cores, and if you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll get to see its performance.

In the GFX 3.1 Manhattan test, this SoC managed to pull off 31.5FPS, which is a somewhat weaker result compared to Nvidia’s Maxwell Tegra X1 chip used in the Google Pixel C. ON the other hand, this is a significantly better result than what Snapdragon 810 offered (17FPS), at leat the one used in the Nexus 6P. The Snapdragon 820 sure is a powerful chip, and it will be a direct competition to Samsung’s Exynos 8890 offering which is expected to hit the market later this month with the announcement of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge handsets. Those two phones are actually rumored to ship with both of these chips, depending one the variant you opt to buy. These two processors will, almost certainly, going to be the most powerful mobile processors this year, though Kirin 950 and Helio X20 processors will definitely try to keep up, both of those look like great processors, and we’ve already seen Kirin 950’s muscles in the Mate 8 phablet.
